HORA |
|
Hora means half. It refers to the period ruled by a planet on a day. As a sign takes approximately two hours to transit the ascendant, the duration of a hora is one hour. Each hora is ruled by a planet with the exception of the Nodes, Rahu and Ketu. On any day, the first hora is ruled by the day lord. For instance, the first hora on a Friday is Venus from 6 am to 7 am. The order of the week days is as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The rulers are, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Sun. If we take the alternate days, the rulers are, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn which is the order of the planets in the solar system according to their proximity to the luminary Sun ( as we observe the sky from the earth, it is replaced by Sun). The order of the planets ruling the horas is just the reverse, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and Moon. In short, the week day rulers are taken alternately and reversed! The first hora on any day is ruled by the day ruler. For instance, on a Friday the first hora is Venus and if we count the horos successively (one hour each), automatically the next day starts with the hora of Saturn! Look at the following table.
Important Note: A day starts at Sun rise. So, the first hora starts from Sun rise, not necessarily at 6 am! Horos of benefics, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury (not in association of malefics) and waxing Moon are always good
